Auditorium renovation continues

Managing editor

The city auditorium renovation project is ahead of schedule. The first phase of constructing a wooden floor over the concrete floor is nearly completed, Marion Advancement Campaign representative Todd Heitschmidt said.

Marion City Council was shown a carpet sample Monday that will be installed in the auditorium on the wooden sub-floor. The sub-floor was installed to level the main floor, making it conducive for tables and chairs. Theater seats were removed in August and are in the process of being sold.

The carpet will be purchased from The County Seat of Marion.

Before the carpet is installed, light fixtures will be updated and the walls will be painted.

The stage floor also will be sanded and covered with carpet.

Free flight a success

City economic development director Doug Kjellin said there were 15 to 20 participants from five states this weekend at Marion Municipal Airport. He asked the council to consider allowing the annual competition to return each year.
