Most agriculturalists in Marion County know of Gordon Morrison of Concordia. He writes a weekly column, “The Learning Post,” for Grass and Grain, an area farm publication.
The former agriculture educator will be the guest speaker Saturday at the 64th annual meeting of Marion County Conservation District.
A graduate of Kansas State University, Morrison taught vocational agriculture for 15 years, most of them at Council Grove High School, before moving to Concordia, where he spent 21 years in the ag business department at Cloud County Community College.
After retirement from teaching, he took up ranching, a vocation he continues to pursue.
He remains active in community affairs and is currently serving on the county conservation district board and the wind technology advisory council at Cloud County Community College.
Morrison attended Council Grove High School and was a member of a football team that played against Marion. He plans to elaborate on one memorable game at Marion in which Marion was favored by 30 points but lost, 6-0.
Morrison will also talk about his friendship with Earl Wineinger, a longtime ag instructor and FFA adviser at Marion and Hillsboro.
The main thrust of his speech will spring from a well on his ranch that is more than 100 years old and “has no bottom.”
“I think that old well will teach us some things,” he said.
The banquet will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion.
