Despite losses, MMS hangs close

JayDee Schafers added six points in the victory and Monica Spachek had two as the team improved to 4-1 on the season.
The A-team found themselves in a tough battle against the Broncos, and fell, 25-23.
Megan Richmond led the Wildcats with eight points, and Montana Percell had seven.
The C-team played solid defense, but couldn’t get the offense going in a 7-5 loss.
Spachek and Sarah Eurit had two points, and Cheyenne Jeffrey added a free throw.
It was more close, hard-fought games Thursday against Hesston, but all three teams fell to the Swathers.
The A-team is now 2-4 on the season after a 24-21 loss.
Briana Hall led a balanced scoring attack with six points and eight rebounds, while Percell hit the glass with 11 rebounds to go along with five points.
Richmond (four steals) and Erin Meierhoff (three steals) each had four points.
The B-team lost by three points as well, 31-28.
Shields nearly recorded a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Schafers (six rebounds) and Ericka Herzet (one steal) chipped in with seven points each, while Hess had three points and five steals.
The C-team fell to 2-3 with a 26-10 loss.
Cassandra McPhail had four points, and Spachek, Jeffrey, and Elizabeth Goentzel each had two.
Head coach Casson Schmidt was pleased with the effort from all of his teams.
“I was extremely proud of the way our girls played this week. In both games, we struggled in the first half but were able to get ourselves back into it,” he said. “Unfortunately, things didn’t go our way in the end. Our focus next week will be on playing four full quarters and preparing for Halstead.”
