Barbara A. Gordon

Barbara Anne (Sims) Gordon, 57, of Independence, Mo., died Dec. 4, 2011, at her home.

She was born July 2, 1954, in Herington to George C. and Jeanette W. (Frese) Sims. She was a radiology sedation nurse.

At the time of her death, she was employed at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. She had also worked as a pediatric intensive care unit nurse in Topeka, Denver, Colo., and Phoenix, Ariz.

She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Independence, Mo., and the Independence Messiah Chorus.

She graduated from Herington High School in 1972, attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, and graduated from Stormont-Vail School of Nursing in Topeka.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph T. Gordon and Steven J. Gordon, both of Independence, Mo.; her mother, Jeanette Sims of Herington; three sisters, Diane Foster of Livingston Manor, N.Y., Susan Kelts of Rapid City, S.D., and Sharon Sims of Indianapolis, Ind.; one brother, Gary Sims of Herington; and a variety of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, George Sims.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herington, with the Rev. Bill Peterson officiating. Inurnment was at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
