Basore throws farthest for Centre track

Centre’s Kate Basore finished first in javelin to lead all Centre competitors April 12 at Halstead. She had a throw of 120 feet, 4 inches. Carissa Shields scored with a fourth-place finish.

The girls team finished fourth of six teams. The boys team finished fifth.

Summer Espinoza, Whitney Gutsch, and Basore finished second, third, and fourth, respectively, in girls shot put. Shields finished third in discus.

Amanda Salamone placed fourth in high jump and tied for fifth in long jump.

Barrett Smith finished second in javelin and shot put. Brendon Bina placed fourth in javelin, and Cody Svoboda tied for sixth place.

Jacob Bittle placed fifth in shot put and sixth in discus.

Max Svoboda finished fifth in the 200-meter dash.

In golf, Nathaniel Engler finished 25th of 82 competitors at the Southern Lyon County tournament April 12 at Emporia. He scored a 94.
