LETTERS TO THE EDITOR:   Be safe in new school year

To the editor:

Thursday is the first day of another school year. Marion Police Department urges everybody to be aware of children walking to school and maintain a safe speed while driving through school zones.

We also would like to remind all the parents of children old enough to drive to school to remind their children of the importance of wearing seatbelts and driving safely. School zones will be monitored regularly by Marion police, who will enforce all traffic violations.

For children who walk to school, we urge students to use sidewalks instead of walking in the street.

Marion police would like to say “good luck” to all the students this year, and we want this to be a very safe year for all.

If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me or my staff at any time.

Marion Police Chief Tyler Mermis
