Beaches at Marion County Park and Lake and Marion Reservoir are open again, but both lakes remain under a blue-green algae advisory.
Kansas Department of Health and Environment downgraded the status of the lakes from “warning,” which triggered the closing of beaches at both lakes.
An “advisory” means hazardous conditions exist and blue-green algae may be present. Human and animal contact with the water in affected areas is discouraged but not prohibited.
“If you see it, don’t get in it,” Marion County Park and Lake assistant manager Brian Thiessen said. “The beach will be open.”
Marion Reservoir summer park ranger Evan Just confirmed beaches at the reservoir are also open, but urged caution.
