Beeson hired as Centre superintendent

Susan Beeson of Chetopa was hired in a special meeting Monday of the Centre board of education to serve as superintendent-principal of Centre schools beginning July 1.

She accepted a two-year contract that includes a salary of $88,000 for the first year, a single Blue Cross-Blue Shield health insurance policy, 15 days paid vacation, two personal leave days, and 10 sick leave days. She will have use of a school vehicle for business travel, receive compensation for administrative dues, and get $2,000 toward moving expenses.

A mother of seven grown children, she is married to a retired railroad engineer and rancher.

Beeson has been the Superintendent of Schools at USD 505 Chetopa-St. Paul since July 2012.

She worked 11 years as a school social worker and elementary counselor for Southeast Kansas Special Education Interlocal 606 based in Pittsburg; school social worker at Labette County USD 506 in Altamont and Garden City public schools; pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade principal at Crest USD 479 in Colony; and assistant director of special education at Keystone Learning Services in Ozawkie.

Beeson has a bachelor of science in social work from Pittsburg State University, Master of Social Work (Clinical) School endorsement from the University of Kansas, Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Pittsburg State University, and District Leadership in Education from Pittsburg State University.
