Berniece Broadstreet

Berniece Schick Broadstreet, 97, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on July 31 at St. Luke’s Living Center, with her husband, Les, by her side.

The child of David and Ella Schick, Berniece was born on Sept. 12, 1917, in Lincolnville. Her dad was a farmer around the Lincolnville area and her mom was always assisting her dad at the farm and their home.

She attended and graduated from Lincolnville High School.

Berniece met Leslie R. Broadstreet at the old Rankin Skating Rink, and it was the beginning of their faithful love for each other.

They were married Oct. 22, 1938 at the Parsonage of the old Emmanual Baptist Church. They lived in Marion in the late ’50s and early ’60s, and then moved to Wichita.

Berniece had worked at home and outside their home, but what she really enjoyed was when she started helping her husband, Les, at his photography studio. She played a good part in her husband’s photographic developing, painting, and accounting in Wichita.

They lived in Wichita for almost 50 years, until 2005 when they both decided to move back to Marion. Due to health reasons, they moved to St. Luke’s Living Center.

At the Living Center, Berniece enjoyed reading the newspaper and doing all sorts of crossword puzzles. She also had good memories of spending time with Les, walking together in the hallway, visiting the staff, and receiving homemade crafts, greeting cards, and cookies from the visitors and staff of the Living Center.

She is survived by her husband, Leslie R. Broadstreet; sons Gailen Broadstreet and Rand and Taff Broadstreet; grandsons Jeremy and Aaron Broadstreet; granddaughters Lisa Pharr and Shannon Stone; and many nieces and nephews.
