Body of minister found
Staff writer
The body of Timothy Kliewer, 71, of Hillsboro, was spotted by a boater 12:30 p.m. Saturday on the shore between Hillsboro Cove and French Creek Cove at Marion Reservoir.
The retired minister had been missing since May 12 when his catamaran overturned at the reservoir between Marion Cove and Cottonwood Point.
The Marion County Sheriff’s office sent the body to the Sedgwick County regional forensics center for an autopsy. They will wait for the results to determine a cause and exact time of death.
Marion and Florence Police Departments, Kansas Highway Patrol, Marion Fire Department, Marion Emergency Medical Services personnel, Army Corps of Engineers Park Rangers, and Wichita Fire Department divers assisted the sheriff’s office in the weeklong search.
Kliewer was the pastor of Trinity Mennonite Church in Hillsboro from 1999 through 2007. He retired a year before current pastor Jeff Wintermote joined the church in 2008.
