Bowl team breaks record

The Marion High School scholars’ bowl team posted a record of 5-2 in pool play to advance to the round-robin finals, where they posted an 0-3 record to capture the fourth-place medals at the Council Grove Invitational.

In pool play, Marion defeated Southeast of Saline, 50-45, Mission Valley, 30-20, West Franklin, 40-20, Smoky Valley, 70-50, and Hillsboro, 60-30.

In the round-robin finals, the Warriors lost to El Dorado, 60-15, Flint Hills Christian, 100-30, and Wabaunsee, 50-30.

Senior Elizabeth Goentzel led scoring with 170 points, sophomore Kaylie Waner with 120 points, junior Jared Hague with 75, and senior Jenevieve Corona and sophomore Quinton Hett with 30 points each.

The Council Grove tournament was the first time the Warriors reached the finals this season.
