Burdette Peterson

Burdette E. “Bud” Peterson, 61, of Burdick, died Friday at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

He was born on Nov. 9, 1949, in Herington, to Wendell E. and Mary Deane (Burns) Peterson.

He married Maureen F. Riffel Jan. 17, 1970, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lincolnville.

Peterson was the head coach of the Herington High School football team. He was a member of the Hebron Lutheran Church, Burdick, served on numerous church boards, and sang in the choir. He was a member of the Centre School Board.

Peterson was a history teacher at Centre High School for more than 24 years.

Peterson graduated from Centre High School with the class of 1967. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters Lisa Beye of Herington, Jenny Schrader of Wichita, and Kelli Salazar of Derby; two brothers Bill Peterson of Herington and Marvin Peterson of Lincolnville; and eight grandchildren.

A funeral will be 10 a.m. today at the Centre High School Auditorium with his brother Bill Peterson officiating; burial will follow at Hebron Lutheran Cemetery, Burdick.

Memorials have been requested to the Centre and Herington High School Athletic Department scholarship funds. They can be sent in the care of the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS 67449.
