Seventy people attended the Burdick United Methodist Women annual Spring Tea April 21 at Burdick United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Tables were decorated with potted plants, which were given as prizes, and a favor of a notebook or inspiration book and pen was given to attendees. A light supper was served of what might have been served in Peru. Quinioa, a grain grown in Peru, was served in a salad with vegetables and pork. A slide presentation was given by Nellie Kassebaum of her National Geographic trip to Peru in 2009. Her father, Bill Kassebaum, assisted her. Members from other churches included those from Eastmoor and Valley United Methodist churches in Marion; Herington United Methodist Church; St. John’s United Methodist Church, Lincolnville; and Burdick Hebron Lutheran Church.

Keith and Dianne Miller of Grand Junction, Colo., visited Mary Deane Peterson.

Elinor Remy attended a funeral for Lola Mae Atkinson Thursday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Herington.

Diana Ecklund of Lincolnville took Mary Deane Peterson to doctors’ appointments April 20 and Thursday.

Gayla Deines took Darlene Gutsch to the Spring Tea April 21. Gayla visited Darlene Gutsch after the program. She brought geraniums from the plant sale, a computer, and other supplies to her mother.

Carol Dutton, Kevin, and Terry of Manhattan picked up Gary and Marilyn Hageberg Sunday and took them out to eat at Emporia.

Evelyn Forsberg visited Harry Schump at Herington Saturday afternoon.

Ed and the Rev. Ruth Ann Jones of Rock Falls, Ill., visited Mary Deane Peterson April 21. Rev. Jones was also a Thursday afternoon visitor.

Dennis Schroer of Wichita, nephew of Lois Peterson and Ruth Riggin, died April 19 of a heart attack. His funeral was Monday. His daughter and family from Germany could not get an earlier flight because volcano ash delayed flights. Lois Peterson and Keith and Dianne Miller visited the Dennis Schroer family April 21 at Wichita. The Millers returned to Colorado on Friday.

Marvin Peterson of Lincolnville took Mary Deane Peterson to her doctor’s appointment Friday at Wichita. Sara Denley of Winfield came to be with her aunt. They ate breakfast out.

Charles and Arlene Carlson were dinner guests Saturday of Kent and Jean Brunner. Other guests were Nolan and Melissa Brunner, Leah, and Noah of Herington and Jill Brunner and Tucker of Emporia.

Charles Carlson celebrated his 85th birthday Monday.

Harry Schump and Jane Rickenbrode and Morgan of Council Grove were dinner guests Sunday of Evelyn Forsberg. Afternoon and evening visitors were Wade Rickenbrode, Dean and Nanette Forsberg, Ethan Forsberg, and Savannah Hicks.

Doreen Carlson of Chappell, Neb., and Josie Peterson of Lincolnville brought dinner to Mary Deane Peterson April 21.

Gene and Doris Winkler of Marion were visitors Friday evening of Darlene Gutsch. They also visited Dan and Linda Peterson to share pictures of their recent trip to the River Walk.

Elinor Remy attended a spring music program Friday at Centre. Her granddaughter, Katie Remy, participated in the program.

Dennis and Joanne Peterson of Farmington, N.M., were guests Thursday of Forrest and Marie Anderson. They were on their way home from visiting their granddaughter at a seminary in Wilmore, Ky.

Bill Peterson took Mary Deane Peterson to Herington Saturday to spend the day. Josie Peterson of Lincolnville was an overnight guest Saturday and during the day Sunday. Burdette and Maureen Peterson visited with Mary Dean several times during the week.

The Rev. Jay J. Beck visited Darlene Gutsch Sunday morning after church services. Perry Gutsch of Herington visited Sunday afternoon.

Forrest and Marie Anderson visited Maurine Johnson Monday at Bethany Home.

Donations accepted for sale

Baked goods are needed for a bake sale Saturday at the Central Zone youth center building on East Main Street, Marion.

Those wanting to donate wrapped baked items should bring them to the youth center early Saturday or to the city or chamber of commerce offices on Friday.
