Forrest and Marie Anderson attended a couples’ shower for Thane Sparke and Janeen Saturday afternoon at the home of Brian and Amy Gant at Council Grove. Thane and Janeen attended College at Henderson, Neb.

Savannah Hicks was a visitor May 18 of Evelyn Forsberg.

Andy Carlson, son of Glenn and Sandy Carlson, graduated May 14 from Hutchinson Community College with a degree in diesel mechanics. Those attending graduation and a reception were Glenn and Sandy Carlson and Katie Carlson; Shirley Parrish of Anchorage, Alaska; Mike and Angie Stika, Micayla, Alex, Myranda, and Aaron of Lincolnville; and Justin and Lauri Carlson, Jordan, Lauren, and Mija of Council Grove. Some of Andy’s college classmates attended the reception.

Perry Gutsch and Gayla Deines visited Darlene Gutsch Thursday evening at Herington Municipal Hospital.

Burdick senior citizens sponsored a program Friday evening at Burdick United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Justin Tang, a 17-year-old exchange student from Taiwan, showed slides and played the piano. His host parents are Ronnie and Susan Carlson. Refreshments and snacks were served. President Lee Shade was in charge of the event.

Glenn Carlson was a visitor May 19 of Evelyn Forsberg.

Nancy Garver and her granddaughter from Oklahoma City visited Mary Deane Peterson this week. They were in the area to decorate graves in preparation of Memorial Day. Lois Peterson visited Mary Deane on Monday. Bill and Judy Peterson of Herington brought supper to Mary Deane one night this past week. Lisa Beye of Herington visited Sunday and planted flowers for her. Burdette and Maureen Peterson visited Sunday and Burdette did chores for Mary Deane including turning on the air conditioner.

Dean Forsberg visited Evelyn Forsberg Friday morning. Evelyn visited Jane Rickenbrode in Council Grove Friday afternoon.

Sarah, a former foreign exchange student who stayed with Phil and Jamie Peterson three or four years ago, spent the past two weeks visiting the Petersons at their home at Burdick. Phil and Jamie hosted a farewell party Sunday evening for her. Some who attended included Lois Peterson, Joyce Roever, Danny Miller, and Darren and Amy Makovec and daughters. Phil and Jamie took Sarah to catch her flight Monday to return to Germany.

Tom Remy was a dinner guest Sunday of Elinor Remy.

Burdick United Methodist Women met May 19 at the Burdick United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall with six members in attendance. Linda Peterson offered devotion. Diana Jost presented a lesson and Susan Carlson served refreshments.

Burdick Council of Clubs will meet at 7:30 p.m. June 8 at the Legion Hall.

Rolland Peterson was hospitalized for several days this past week at Herington Municipal Hospital with walking pneumonia. He was dismissed Friday.

A group of antique cars, Stanley Steamers, and Model Ts stopped at Burdick Meat Market. They were members of Sunflower State Crankers and are motoring across Kansas, driving 35 mph. They were in Council Grove this past week.

Jane Rickenbode and Morgan of Council Grove brought dinner to Evelyn Forsberg at noon Sunday. Henry Schump was an additional dinner guest. Savannah and Willie Hicks were Sunday evening visitors.
