Burdick United Methodist Women hosted the annual Guest Night April 15 at Burdick United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. A light supper was served at 6:30 p.m. to 75 guests. Tables were decorated with rainbow-hued plates, napkins, potted plants, pincushions, and bookmarks. The pincushions and bookmarks were given as favors and made by Lee Shade and Linda Basore. Potted plants of fabric flowers, made by Jean Ecklund, were given as prizes to 12 guests who had a pin in their pincushions. Guests were invited to bring samples of their needlework to display before the program. Susan Carlson, president of Burdick UMW, opened the program in the church sanctuary. The hymn, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” was sung. Diana Jost introduced the speaker, Marva Morrison, of Wichita. Her program, “Ribbon Embroidery,” included many lovely examples of her work on shirts, vests, wall hangings, and a purse. Special guests were Pastor Roy Nelson of Herington United Methodist Church; Donna Beck of Junction City, wife of Pastor Jay J. Beck of Burdick United Methodist Church; Marilyn Cox, former pastor of Burdick UM Church, of Peabody; and Arlene Bowers, wife of Vernon Bowers, also a previous pastor. Churches represented were Peabody United Methodist Church, Hebron Lutheran Church, Elmdale United Methodist Church, Herington United Methodist Church, Marion Valley United Methodist Church, Marion Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Herington Presbyterian Church, St. John Lutheran Church of Lincolnville, St. Paul Lutheran Church of Herington, and the host church.

Burdick Senior Citizens met at 11:30 a.m. April 17 at Burdick Legion Hall for a catered meal. Those attending were Lee and Al Shade, Gary and Marilyn Hageberg, Forrest and Marie Anderson, Lois Peterson, Leona Anderson, Elinor Remy, Darlene Gutsch, Joyce and Ruth Ann Carlson, and Roger and Rolland Peterson. Vice president Lee Shade conducted a short meeting in the absence of president Nancy Hanson. The secretary and treasurer reports were given and several thank you notes for memorials were read. There was a two-part program following the business meeting. Lynley Remy, music instructor, brought a group of 25 third grade students from Centre Elementary School to perform selections from an upcoming spring program. Others attending were Jamie Peterson, classroom assistant and bus driver, and Angela Basore and Matthew. Kate Basore was a member of the performing group. Students were given treats of candy bars after the program. Ksenily Vynohradova, a foreign exchange student from Ukraine, gave a report of her country. Phil and Jamie Peterson are her hosts. The student showed items from her country. She wore a blouse of her country’s holiday and sang the national anthem. She will return home after graduation. The senior citizens gave her a gift.

Hebron Lutheran WELCA met April 15 at the home of Dolly Novak. Carol Miller was lesson leader. Attending were Lois Peterson, Nancy Hanson, Naomi Nelson, Elinor Remy, Alona Hedstrom, Gloria Martin, Hallie Novak, and Pastor Bill Peterson.

Jamie Peterson’s birthday was celebrated with a dinner at noon Sunday at a restaurant in Abilene. Those attending were Phil Peterson and Chris, Lois Peterson, John and Adrienne Richards of Lawrence, Kseniya Vynohradova of Ukraine, Darren and Amy Makovec, Ellie and Shelby, Joyce Roever, David Miller, and Danny Miller.

Dean Forsberg was a guest Tuesday for dinner and in the afternoon of Evelyn Forsberg. Harry Schump of Herington visited in the afternoon.

Clint and Diana Jost visited Lorene Jost Sunday afternoon at Hillsboro. They were Sunday afternoon coffee guests of Lee and Pat Nuss at Hillsboro.

Evelyn Forsberg spent Wednesday afternoon through Friday afternoon with Wade and Morgan Rickenbrode in Council Grove while their mother was in California.

Forrest and Marie Anderson visited Maurine Johnson Monday afternoon at Bethany Home in Lindsborg.

Ruth Riggin had an appointment Wednesday in Salina and had lunch with Julie Sader.

Evelyn Forsberg visited Mary Jane Randle Thursday afternoon at Council Grove.

Charles and Arlene Carlson were dinner guests Sunday of Kent and Jean Brunner at Ramona. Other guests were Jill Brunner and Tucker of Emporia, Derik Schrader of Alta Vista, and Nolan Brunner of Herington.

Wade and Morgan Rickenbrode were guests overnight Friday and Saturday of Evelyn Forsberg. They returned home Saturday evening with Jane Rickenbrode.

Ruth Riggin and Marilyn Hageberg attended the funeral of Alton Matz Thursday afternoon at Valley United Methodist Church in Marion.

Gary and Marilyn Hageberg went to Topeka Saturday to attend a 50th birthday barbecue honoring Kenny Roberts, which was hosted by Teresa Hageberg at her home.

Visitors of Darlene Gutsch this week were Mary Deane Peterson Sunday evening, Marilyn Hageberg Monday morning, and Gayla Deines Wednesday evening who was my guest at the Guest Night at Burdick UM Church. Pastor Jay J. Beck visited late Thursday afternoon. Gayle Deines and Shelby came Thursday afternoon with some flowers from the Centre High School plant sale for an early Mother’s Day gift.

Joe Forsberg of San Diego, Calif., Sabrina Dunkin, Logan and Konnor of Rose Hill, Savannah Forsberg, Willy Hicks, Jane Rickenbrode, and Dean and Nanette Forsberg were guests Saturday of Evelyn Forsberg.

Josie Peterson and Quentin Wacker were visitors Sunday afternoon of Mary Deane Peterson.

Pastor Jay J. Beck and Marilyn Hageberg reported Mrs. George (Shirley) Miller had surgery Thursday and it was successful. She is recovering at Via Christi-St. Francis ICU and will remain for five to seven days. Forrest Anderson will have back surgery Monday. Keep them both in your thoughts and prayers.

Joe Forsberg, Jane Rickenbrode, Wade and Morgan were Sunday evening visitors of Evelyn Forsberg.

I visited Linda Peterson after church Sunday and her news was their bus trip Thursday, Friday, and Saturday to Branson. The short travelogue she gave us was interesting and entertaining.

Elinor Remy visited Leona Anderson Tuesday morning.

Joe Forsberg graduated from U.S. Marine Corps basic training April 17 in San Diego. Jane Rickenbrode of Council Grove attended the graduation. Joe and Jane flew home Saturday. He will be at Burdick for a short time, visiting relatives and friends. He will return to San Diego and later he will be transferred to 29 Palms, Calif. Congratulations on the first milestone of military training.

There was a benefit supper April 25 at Tampa Senior Center for Shannon Rziha, daughter-in-law of Jerry and Jeannie Rziha of Tampa. She has a rare form of cancer. Supper was by free-will donation.
