Burdick couple dies from intersection wreck

News editor

An elderly Burdick couple died Friday from injuries sustained when their car collided with a semi truck at the intersection of US-56/77 and K-150.

The car’s driver, Marie Anderson, 90, of Burdick, had stopped on US-56, then entered the intersection to make a left turn at about 6:44 p.m., Marion County Sheriff Robert Craft said. The southbound semi, driven by Tseveen Boldbaatar of Naperville, Illinois, attempted to move left, but collided with the front left side of the car, spinning it into the west ditch.

Anderson was extricated from the car by Marion rescue personnel and transported to St. Luke Hospital, where she later died. Her husband, Forrest, 90, was a passenger in the car, and was also taken to St. Luke. A Life Team helicopter transported him to Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, where he died shortly before midnight.

The semi went off the road to the east, driving into a field before curving back toward the highway and stopping in the east ditch. Boldbaatar appeared to be uninjured, Craft said.

There have been 35 other accidents at the intersection since 2006, causing injuries to 38 people and killing one.
