Congratulations to the graduates in our area from Centre High School May 17 — Kirsten Johnson, daughter of David and Connie Johnson, and Konley Harding, son of Kelsey Harding and the late Lois Harding. Eighth grade students from our area promoted were Rebekah Basore, Carrie Carlson, Kendall Harding, Kodey Johnson, and Ellie Miller of Centre; Briar Starr of Herington and Jadon Beck of Junction City.

Perry Gutsch took Darlene Gutsch to Salina Tuesday to have some skin cancer removed beneath her eye. She is doing well except for a black eye.

Dan and Linda Peterson attended a graduation party Saturday evening for Konley Harding at Burdick Legion Hall. Gary and Marilyn also attended the party.

Mary Deane Peterson and Lois Peterson attended Council Grove graduation Sunday afternoon. Burdette Peterson was honored to be giving the commencement address to the graduating seniors.

Angela Basore reported that her grandfather, Francis George, had a non-injury fall Wednesday. She appreciated Gary coming to help her get him up.

Darlene Gutsch visited Marilyn Hageberg Wednesday afternoon. She went especially to see the beautiful bouquet of flowers Marilyn had received for Mother’s Day from Teresa Hageberg.

Dean Forsberg was a Monday morning visitor of Evelyn Forsberg.

Jim and Marilyn Cox of Peabody were visitors Sunday at Burdick United Methodist Church. Marilyn was our part-time pastor several years ago. She later was pastor at the Lyona-Woodbine church.

Dean Forsberg was a Wednesday morning visitor of Evelyn Forsberg. Harry Schump of Herington was a dinner and afternoon visitor. Nanette Forsberg visited Evelyn Wednesday evening.

Forrest and Marie Anderson were overnight guests Friday of Gary and Karen Korte at Emporia. They accompanied Gary and Karen Korte to Manhattan Saturday morning to attend the graduation of Erin Korte from Kansas State University. They had dinner at noon at a café in Manhattan. They attended the 5 p.m. graduation of Jayson Hauser at Kansas State University. Jayson’s parents, Gary and Karen Korte, Erin Korte, Forrest and Marie Anderson, and other family and friends attended a lunch after graduation at Jayson’s the apartment.

Charles and Arlene Carson were dinner guest’s noon Sunday of Kent and Jean Brunner. Other guests were Lauren Brunner, Nolan and Melissa Brunner and Leah of Herington, Jill Brunner and Tucker of Emporia, and Derek Schrader of Alta Vista.

Dan and Linda Peterson attended Chris Wangerin’s wedding Saturday evening at Abilene.

Thursday evening visitors of Evelyn Forsberg were Nanette Forsberg, Sabrina Dunkin, Logan, Konnor, and Garrett of Rose Hill. This was the first visit with Evelyn’s new great-grandson.

Ruth Riggin attended a graduation party Sunday afternoon for James Weber at Tampa Senior Center. She also visited Bob and Betty Bevin at Lost Springs.

Please note a time change to summer schedule for Burdick United Methodist Church. Worship is 9:30 a.m., fellowship time, 10:30 a.m., and Sunday school, 10:45 a.m. Burdick U.M.W. has been re-scheduled to 7:30 p.m. this evening (Wednesday), at the Fellowship Hall.

Evelyn Forsberg visited Harry Schump Saturday afternoon at Herington.

Lois Peterson and Mary Deane Peterson attended an after graduation party Sunday afternoon for Kirsten Johnson at Hebron Lutheran Church.

Perry Gutsch, Anthony, and Whitney of Herington visited Darlene Gutsch Saturday afternoon. While they were there, they helped trim, weed, and mulch some flowerbeds.

Shirley Gawith of Salina, and Janet Johnson of Enterprise, nieces of Goldie Steely, brought lunch Thursday noon to Shirley Miller at her home. An additional guest was Marilyn Hageberg. Goldie was not able to be with them as she has had some health concerns. Keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Burdick United Methodist Church administrative council met Wednesday evening at Fellowship Hall with 10 members present.

Evelyn Forsberg attended an after graduation party for her great-nephew, Brandon Nuss, Sunday afternoon at Herington.

Lois Peterson accompanied Ruth Riggin to Wamego Friday to visit Gary Zinn. They had lunch with him.

Josie Peterson spent Sunday night and Monday with Mary Deane Peterson. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Balmer of Aledo, Ill., visited Mary Deane Monday.

Elinor Remy attended the FFA banquet Thursday evening at Centre High School. Part of the evening’s program was a video of past events. The video included Lee Remy doing the auctioneering for the FFA sale to the music of “The Auctioneer’s Song.” It was announced memorial contributions for Lee were used to purchase a trophy case that is to be in the commons area. It will have a plaque stating that it is a memorial to him. Todd Remy of Manhattan attended the banquet.

Gary and Marilyn Hageberg also attended the FFA banquet. Their grandson, Trevor, received some awards.

Recent late afternoon visitors of Evelyn Forsberg were Joe Forsberg and Mary Deane Peterson. Mary Deane was a supper guest.

Kent and Jean Brunner hosted a Mother’s Day dinner at their home Sunday noon. Guests were Lauren Brunner, Charles and Arlene Carlson, Mike and Linda Carlson, Nolan and Melissa Brunner and Leah of Herington, John and Amy Hanely of Salina, Jill Brunner and Tucker of Emporia, and Derek Schrader of Alta Vista.

Joe Forsberg left for San Diego, Calif., Tuesday morning. We wish him good luck in his future in the service.

Burdick U.M.W. will meet at 7:30 p.m. May 20 at the church’s fellowship hall.

Joyce Roever, Ellie Makovec, and Lois Peterson were guests of Phil and Jamie Peterson Saturday evening for an early Mother’s Day celebration.

Burdette and Marvin Peterson were Wednesday evening visitors of Mary Deane Peterson. Lisa Beye and Chelsea were Thursday evening visitors.

Callers on Forrest and Marie Anderson this week were Mary Deane Peterson, Enno Burhoop, and Don Anderson.

Burdick Council of Clubs met at the Legion Hall May 6 with 11 members present. The poster of events was set up. Entertainment for Sunday night and Monday has been booked. A part of Sunday night’s program will be the rock ’n’ roll contest. Please enter early. A copy of the cookbook was viewed and will be proofread. Plans are for the cookbook to be on sale at the Labor Day celebration. Flower baskets have been purchased for the Burdick sign and flowers planted in the planter at the Masonic Lodge. Jake and Nancy Hanson will maintain them.

Ruth Riggin attended a Mother’s Day picnic Sunday at the Salina Park hosted by Lyal and Julie Sader. Others attending were Tisha Bielefeld, Seth and Megan, Brian Sader, and Missy Euler and Sammi of Wichita.

Dean Forsberg was a Friday morning visitor of Evelyn Forsberg. Evelyn is a proud great-grandmother. Marcus and Sabrina Dunkin of Rose Hill are the parents of a son born May 8. He has been named Garrett Lynn. Two brothers, Logan and Konnor, are at home to welcome him.

Burdette and Maureen Peterson and Rigo and Mario Salazar of Derby were Saturday morning visitors of Mary Deane Peterson. Savannah Forsberg and Willie Hicks were afternoon visitors.

Jim and Marilyn Peterson, Mike Peterson and Kasey of Lyndon and Lois Peterson had Mother’s Day dinner Sunday noon at a Herington restaurant.
