Playing before a full house Friday, the Centre High School Cougars defeated Wakefield for the second time in two weeks. They won the homecoming game, 63-39, improving their record to 8 wins and 8 losses.

Brian Burhoop had an excellent night, compiling 25 points on three 3-pointers, six field goals, and 4-of-4 free throws. He also led the team in rebounds with 11.

Burhoop scored the first 4 points of the game. Adam Matz and Rustyn Kerbs each made a 3-pointer, and Tanner Brunner, Kordell Harding, and Trevor Hageberg also made field goals, contributing to a 21-13 first-quarter lead.

The lead built from there with quarterly scores of 36-23, 46-29, and 63-39. The Bombers could not handle Centre’s defense and missed many shots, which caused them to fall farther and farther behind.

The Cougars shot 37 percent from the floor and made 13-of-24 free-throw attempts.

In addition to Burhoop’s 25 points, Brunner scored 11, Harding 8, Hageberg 6, Kerbs and Matz 5 each, and James Wyatt 3. Kerbs contributed 4 assists and 4 steals.
