Cacey Simons leads CHS track team

Staff writer

Competing against Sterling, Halstead, Hesston, and Moundridge track athletes April 24, Centre High School’s Cacey Simons took first place in high jump, with a leap of 4 feet, 8 inches.

It was the final Central Kansas Track League meet of the season.

Several other Centre girls had second-place finishes, including Theo Kassebaum in the 100-meter hurdles, Nellie Kassebaum in the 1600-meter run, and Shelby Makovec in the 800 and 3,200.

A “throwers” 4x100 relay team of Cassidy Hill, Dani Beck, Kailyn Riffel, and Callie Riffel also finished second. Coach Alan Stahlecker explained that some meets have the extra 4x100 meter relay for students who are involved in at least one of three throwing events — shot put, discus, and javelin. Each of the four girls on Centre’s team competed in all three. This relay was a non-scoring event.
