Caleb Abbott
A memorial service for Dr. Caleb Galen Abbott, 84, who passed away Dec. 25, 2025, at his home in Marion, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, at Eastmoor United Methodist Church. Visitation will be an hour before the service. Inurnment will be at Marion Cemetery.
He was born June 15, 1941, in Coffeyville, to Dr. Galen and Ruth Abbott.
He graduated from El Dorado High School; earned degrees in mathematics and physics at Southwestern College, where he also ran track; and earned a doctor of optometry degree at the University of Houston College of Optometry.
He was proud to be a third-generation optometrist.
He served in the Army at Fort Leonard Wood as a captain practicing optometry.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his parents; and his older brother, Stephen.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Carl Abbott (and wife Debbie); daughter Tara Abbott; brother Dr. Warren Abbott (and wife Anita); granddaughters, Carly Willeford (and Jordan) and Kaylee Abbott; and great-granddaughter Charlene.
Caleb enjoyed woodworking, gardening, reading the newspaper, planting trees, singing in the church choir, metal detecting, his family, and friends.
Earlier in life, he enjoyed painting, photography, ham radio, classical music, reading science fiction, and jogging then walking around the lake.
He was a life-long student, enjoying many classes beyond his optometry degree.
A memorial fund has been established with Marion Senior Center in care of Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, 205 Elm St, Marion KS 66861.
