Camping club regulars at lake

Staff writer

Cardinal Campers Club members spent their days relaxing, playing games, fishing, and chatting April 20 through Sunday at Marion County Lake and Park.

Cardinal Campers Club began visiting Marion County Park and Lake about 18 years ago. Luetta Haas of Benton said club members visit Marion County Park and Lake twice every year — April and September. Members come from across Kansas.

Haas and her husband, John Haas, began coming to Marion County nine years ago.

She said the group likes the lake hall for meals and storm shelter.

Bob Bohr of Pretty Prairie spent some time fishing during the trip, but without much luck.

Bohr likes the lake and the hospitality of Marion County staff, led by Park and Lake Superintendent Steve Hudson.

“Steve is doing an excellent job,” Bohr said.

There were 12 RVs at the park this trip, but up to 30 have made the trip before, he said.

Members already were planning their September visit Thursday.

The group’s visits are good for the county, Hudson said. Camping and hookup fees are a financial boon for the park, and the campers spend money at local businesses during their stay.
