Carlson honored by livestock association

The Kansas Livestock Association honored Joyce Carlson of Lincolnville during the KLA Convention Nov. 28 in Wichita for supporting the association for 50 years.

Carlson worked on his father’s farm as a boy then started his own cattle operation when he was 20. He and Ruth Ann, his wife of 66 years, backgrounded calves, which were then either finished at home or in commercial feedlots. Their three sons, Ronnie, Duane, and Marcus, are all involved in the livestock business, as are two grandsons.

Carlson was KLA’s Marion County director from 1987 to 1989 and was a longtime member of the KLA Membership Committee. He has also served on the membership committee of the National Cattlemen’s Association (now the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association).
