Carroll wins at Eureka Invitational

Four Marion High School wrestlers placed Saturday at the Eureka Invitational tournament.

Brody Carroll won the 130-pound class, defeating Michael Vander Linden of Burlington, 6-3, in the championship match. He defeated his first three opponents by pin. Carroll is now 19-3 for the season.

Randy Regnier lost in the championship match of the 125-pound class to Brogan Humphrey of Fredonia, 5-0. Regnier pinned Davion Hill of Wichita West and defeated Daniel Melcher of Herington, 9-5. The loss to Humphrey was Regnier’s second of the year. He is 16-2 for the season.

Cole Lewman also lost a close championship match in the 140-pound class to Trey Thompson of Coffeyville, 6-4. Lewman pinned Colby Taylor of Burlington and defeated Forest Elder of Clearwater, 1-0. Lewman is 9-6 for the year.

Evan Slater placed sixth in the 215-pound class. He lost to Reid Bruce, 4-0, in the second round but defeated his next two opponents by pin before being pinned by Dustin Bayless of Caney Valley. Slater was unable to wrestle against Eric Ostgren of Garden Plain because the Marion sophomore had already wrestled five times on Saturday. Slater is 10-4 for the year. .
