MARION SENIOR CENTER:   Center raising awareness of senior hunger

Marion Senior Center correspondent

Marion Senior Center is participating in March For Meals, a national campaign to raise awareness of hunger among senior citizens and encourage local action.

Among the events is Mayors For Meals Day, and Mayor Mary Olson will participate Friday, delivering Meals on Wheels with Dorothy Conyers.

Meals are served at Marion Senior Center at noon each Monday through Friday, and volunteers deliver Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors. The suggested contribution for meals is $3.15 for patrons 60 or older. The cost is $5 for people younger than 60.

There was a meeting for nutrition site managers March 11 in Peabody. The managers share statistics, program ideas, and the occasional complaint.

Gary and Karen Chaput gave a program March 12 at the center. They volunteer at the Lord’s Diner in Wichita.

The Theo and Alfred M. Landon Center on Aging at the University of Kansas is having a photography contest called Images of Aging, open to amateur and professional photographers. The contest runs from April 15 to May 15.

Marion police officer Mike Stone will bring police dog Legion to give a demonstration March 26.
