Centre boys fall to both Peabody, Goessel

Staff writer

A poor showing in the first half Friday at Peabody-Burns left the Centre Cougars in the dust, 43-15.

They improved in the second half, scoring 17 points in the third quarter and outscoring Peabody 15-9 in the last quarter. The final score was 72-47.

Dylan Deines scored all 7 of Centre’s points in the first quarter. Cole Srajer and Jared Barney each sunk a trey and Nathaniel Engler made a 2-pointer in the second quarter.

Dakota Simpson and Cody Svoboda got in on the action in the third quarter with 2 points each. Srajer scored 14 of Centre’s 15 points in the fourth quarter. James Spohn added a free throw.

Srajer led scoring with 20 points, led by Deines with 12.

Facing Goessel on Tuesday, Centre was outscored 15-6 in the first quarter and could not recover on its way to a 74-52 loss.

Centre could not stop Zach Wiens of Goessel, who scored 28 points.

After its low-scoring first quarter, Centre picked it up offensively.

Srajer led Centre in scoring with 15 and Deines contributed 12.

Jared Barney had 7, Stimpson had 6, and Nathaniel Engler had 5. Svoboda had a pair of field goals for 4 points.

Taking the second and fourth quarters of the game, Goessel and Centre were even at 31. The first and third quarters, however, saw Goessel gain its advantage, as it went 43-21 in those periods.

Centre will host Rural Vista on Friday, before the Cougar Classic begins next week.
