Centre business students qualify for national contest

Members of Centre Future Business Leaders of America participated in the State Leadership Conference March 31 in Topeka.

First-place winners were Jacob Jirak, marketing; Carrie Carlson, Introduction to Par Law; and the parliamentary team of Tanner Brunner, Cole Svoboda, Brian Burhoop, Theo Kassebaum, and Ripley Howard. They qualified to compete in the national FBLA contest July 14-17 in Nashville, Tenn.

Jirak placed sixth in Business Procedures and Kassebaum placed fifth in Public Speaking I. Carlye Simons placed 10th in Client Service.

Jirak and Kassebaum both placed at state last year and attended the national contest in Anaheim, Calif., where Jirak won the Personal Finance test. Jirak is a junior, and Kassebaum is a sophomore.

Others who competed at state were freshmen Anna Weber, Houston Svoboda, and Justin Deines; juniors Adam Matz and Katie Remy; and seniors Josie Peterson, Shelby Deines, and Quentin Wacker.
