Centre defeats Valley Falls, 68-6, in two quarters

In an action-packed football game Friday at Valley Falls, the Centre Cougars piled up 68 points by 3:30 in the second quarter. ending the game. They held Valley Falls to 6 points.

Valley Falls’ only score came halfway through the first quarter, after Jensen Riffel made 12-yard and 21-yard runs and Xavier Espinoza caught a 40-yard pass for touchdowns. Centre led, 22-6.

The Cougars made seven more touchdowns after that. Espinoza scored on a 32-yard pass, a 32-yard interception return, and a 23-yard run. Riffel scored on a 54-yard run, Max Svoboda scored on a 45-yard run and 16-yard run, and Aiden Svoboda made the final touchdown with a 34-yard run. Cody Svoboda had two conversion runs.

Centre compiled 324 rushing yards compared with 24 by Valley Falls. Riffel led with 8 carries for 122 yards, followed by Max Svoboda with 5 carries for 92 yards.

Quarterback Braxton Smith threw three completed passes for 83 yards. Espinoza was the receiver. Espinoza also had three pass interceptions.

“We had a very good game,” coach Kelly Steiner said. “Both offense and defense played well.”

With a record of 4-3, the team is preparing for its final home game Thursday against Rural Vista.
