Staff writer

The Centre High School Cougars ended their 2008 season on a low note. They were zapped Thursday by St. Paul High School, 46-0. St. Paul had a district record of 4-0 coming into the contest.

St. Paul shut out the Cougars and scored six touchdowns and 10 extra points by the end of the first half, cutting the game short.

It was the seventh loss of the season for the embattled Cougars, who finished with a record of 2-7.

First downs were hard to come by for the Cougars. The powerful St. Paul defense held them to just 17 yards rushing on eight carries while piling up 296 yards on 35 carries. Nolan Brunner had Centre’s longest carry, a 12-yard gain.

Centre out-did St. Paul in the air, connecting on seven passes for 72 yards, compared to three receptions for 28 yards by St. Paul. Alex Hajek led Centre, with three receptions for 48 yards.

Zach Antoszyk led the defense with six solo and five assisted tackles.

It was the last game as Centre Cougars for seniors Ben Krause, Savik Howard, Konley Harding, Nathan Barney, Josh Olsen, Canh Antoszyk, Adam Kristek, Josh Leach, and Brandon Albrecht.
