Centre FFA competes in district events

Members of Centre FFA Chapter competed in the South Central District Dairy Cattle, Dairy Foods, and Horse Career Development Events on Nov. 22 at Marion County Fairgrounds in Hillsboro.

Members placing in the top 10 were Brian Burhoop, who placed third overall and received a medal, and Cole Svoboda, who placed sixth in the district and 10th in the Earl Wineinger Invitational Dairy Cattle event.

The dairy cattle A-team placed third in the district competition and sixth in the invitational. Svoboda, Shane Methvin, and Jerami Slayden are members of the team.

The CHS team placed third in the greenhand division, which included Makenzie Deines, Chad Mueller, and Angel Rieman.

National convention

Members of Centre FFA Chapter attended the National FFA Convention Oct. 18 through 23 in Indianapolis. Those who attended were Makenzie Deines, Grant Srajer, Tanner Peterson, Ty Simons, Katie Remy, Amy Makovec, Yvonne Calvert, Dani Spohn, Jerami Slayden, Tom Oborny, Braden Pagenkopf, Chad Mueller, Karl Riffel, Kevin Lewis, and FFA advisers Cary Granzow and Laura Klenda. Alex Hajek, with his brother Andrew, met the group in Indiana.

While at the convention, Nellie Hill, the 2009-10 state vice president, was the Kansas nominee for a national FFA office. She made it to the top 19 but was not chosen.

Alex Hajek was one of four finalists for the Beef Production Placement Proficiency Award but did not come out the winner.
