The past week was a busy one for Centre FFA.

They staged an ag awareness day Sept. 27 for first through fifth graders. Demonstrating live animals and farm implements were Payton Harms on cattle, Zach Barney on sheep, Grace Knepp on pigs, Raeanne Bryant on horticulture, and Greg Oborny and Dylan Deines on farm equipment.

On Sept. 28, members participated in the South Central District entomology contest at Canton. The A team placed fourth overall. Team members were Bryant, Jayden Hallowell, Kyle Naerebout, Athena Salamone, Alexa Ammann, and Kaylan Gosnell. Bryant placed ninth individually.

The horticulture class toured Neosho Gardens Greenhouse in Council Grove on Thursday. They saw the different types and styles of greenhouses in use and viewed equipment used to plant and transplant items. The class brought back 150 poinsettia seedlings to grow for the Christmas season.

Centre FFA sponsored a James Weber Memorial Fishing Derby on Sept. 24 at Fr. Padilla Park in Herington. The 18 participating youngsters caught 30 fish, the longest being 21 inches. In the age 6 to 9 group, Aiden Thibodeau caught the most fish, and Daniel Rziha caught the biggest fish. In the age 10 to 12 group, Mikey Silhan caught the most fish, and Nathan MacRae caught the biggest.
