Centre football seeks elusive first victory

Staff writer

Centre head coach Tye Remy felt frustrated Friday after the Cougars’ fourth loss of the season, 52-6, against Rural Vista. The game was called after less than three quarters.

“It wasn’t as bad as the score looks,” Remy said. “We got so close to getting in but kept on making little mistakes and shooting ourselves in the foot.”

The only Centre points of the game came in the third quarter on a 10-yard pass from Dylan Deines to Cole Methvin for a touchdown.

At that point, Vista led 44-6 and added another eight points to put the final nail in the coffin.

Centre had six first downs compared to 12 by Vista. Max Svoboda led Centre with 57 of 96 rushing yards. Vista rushed for 209 yards. Deines led Centre receptions with 13 of 30 passing yards. Vista passed for 114 yards. Svoboda, Methvin, and Bryce Naerebout were leading tacklers.

“Hopefully, we will get things straightened out before our first district game this week,” Remy said.

The Cougars will play Friday at Burrton.
