Playing their last home matches of the season Oct. 6, the Centre High School volleyball team defeated Elyria and lost to Wakefield.
Prior to the action, the senior girls and their parents were recognized: Carlye Simons, daughter of Clay and Sharon Simons, Lincolnville; and Shelby Deines, daughter of Jeff and Gayla Deines, Ramona.
The first set against Wakefield went down to the wire, with Centre losing 25-27. The Lady Cougars won game two easily, 25-7, as Deines served for nine points and Simons added five.
They were defeated 13-25 in the third set. Anna Weber had five service points, all of the other points were rally points.
Tori Marler set 31-of-33 balls, 10 resulting in kills. Simons completed 100 percent of 20 spike attempts. She had four kills and two blocks.
Weber was 11-of-11 at the net and blocked the ball six times. Ellie Miller had five blocks. Allison Shields delivered eight kills.
Centre defeated Elyria 25-23, 18-25, and 25-21. Deines garnered 15 service points for the match, including four aces. Weber completed 14-of-15 spike attempts, six kills, and five blocks.
The team’s record after the triangular was 9-15.
In a triangular played Sept. 29 at Centre High School, the Lady Cougars defeated St. Xavier and lost to Wichita Sunrise Academy, resulting in a record of 8-14.
Despite good defensive play at the net, with a total of 10 blocks including six by Anna Weber, Centre lost to Sunrise in two sets, 12-25 and 16-25.
Tori Marler scored five service points for the match and was 10-of-13 in setting.
Allison Shields was 10-of-13 in spikes, delivering six kills. Carlye Simons was 6-of-6, with one kill. Weber and Ellie Miller both were a perfect 3-of-3 at the net.
The Lady Cougars defeated St. Xavier, 25-11 and 25-12. Deines led scoring with 12 points.
Shields delivered 10 kills in 13 spikes. Other spikers were Simons, 7-of-7; Miller, 5-of-5; and Weber, 3-of-3.
Marler was 24-of-26 in setting, five resulting in kills. Tori Kassebaum set 9-of-10 for five kills, and Deines set 7-of-7 for two kills.
