The Centre High School girls’ basketball team was defeated Dec. 13 at Elyria Christian, 51-30.
Deficit scoring in three quarters and a scoreless third quarter led to their loss.
Despite two 3-point shots and a field goal by Shelby Makovec and two field goals by Simons, Centre was outscored 17-12 in the first quarter.
Jasmin Abdel Ghany, Basore, and Simons combined for 8 points in the second quarter. Centre trailed 29-20 at halftime and 38-20 after three quarters. The game ended with a 21-point deficit for Centre.
Leading scorers were Shelby Makovec, 12, and Simons, 11.
The junior varsity was defeated, 34-23. Both teams were almost even in scoring except for the second quarter, in which Centre scored 2 points and Elyria scored 12.
Ghany scored 10 points, followed by Deines with 4, Brenna Shields 3, and Nellie Kassebaum, Kailyn Riffel, and Cassidy Hill 2 each.
