Turnovers and bad passes characterized much of the play of the Lady Cougars’ matchup Saturday against Solomon in the championship game of the Eisenhower League tournament at Solomon. They were defeated, 57-49.
They were in the game by the luck of the draw after they and the other two teams in their pool each finished 1-1 in pool play.
They trailed 9-6 after one quarter and went ahead in the second quarter, leading several times by as much as four points. The game was tied at 23-all when a Solomon player made a last-second 3-point shot to give the Lady Gorillas a halftime lead.
From then on, the Lady Cougars struggled from behind and were never able to catch up. They fell behind by 10 points and got back within six, 54-48, in the fourth quarter, before losing by eight.
Allison Shields and Carlye Simons scored 11 points each. Other scorers were DJ Turner, nine points; Shelby Deines, eight; Ellie Miller, six; and Ripley Howard and Josie Peterson, two each.
