The Centre Junior High School girls’ basketball team won the first two league games of the 2011-12 season on the road. They are coached by Deb Wiles.
Centre defeated White City, 34-4, on Nov. 17. Shelby Pankratz was leading scorer with 9 points, followed by Kristin Vinduska and Ally Basore with 7 each, and Marler, 5. Carissa Shields, Abigail Svoboda, and Haley Rudolph scored 2 points each.
Playing at Peabody Nov. 21, Centre won, 42-22. Basore and Rudolph each scored 14 points. Katie Marler scored 8 points, Alexius Kendrick 4, and Shields, 2.
The Lady Cougars were outranked in the opening game of the season Nov. 14 when they played 3A Marion on the road. Centre lost, 35-19.
Basore led scoring with 10 points. Other scorers were Pankratz, 4, Vinduska and Marler, 2 each, and Taylor Peterson, 1.
The first home game of the season will be at 5 p.m. Thursday against Wakefield.
Boys’ team
The first two league games of the season also ended in victories for the Center Junior High School boys’ basketball team.
Final scores are Nov. 17 at White City: Centre 25, White City 16; and Nov. 21 at Peabody: Centre 29, Peabody 24.
The Cougars played Marion Nov. 14 in the opening game of the season and were defeated, 38-22. Their first home game is Thursday against Wakefield.
