CENTRE:   Centre Junior High boys keep winning

The Centre Junior High Cougars are on a roll. They won the third game of the season Thursday against Wakefield, 34-28, at Cougar Field.

Wakefield scored first with a touchdown in the first quarter. Centre scored two touchdowns in the second, one on a 20-yard pass from Kyle Methvin to Justin Deines, and the other on a 35-yard pass from Houston Svoboda to Kendall Harding. Methvin scored a two-point conversion.

At halftime, Centre led 14-6. Each team scored six points in the third quarter, Centre’s on a one-yard run by Deines.

Wakefield outscored Centre 16-14 in the fourth. The Cougars scored on a 63-yard run by Harding and a 36-yard pass from Harding to Deines. Kodey Johnson scored the two-point conversion on a pass from Deines.

The Bombers scored the final touchdown, but the Cougars walked away with a satisfying, six-point win.

Centre rushed for 143 yards compared to 159 for Wakefield. Both teams were almost equal in passing yards, 134 and 133.

Harding was leading rusher, carrying the ball 12 times for 104 yards. Other rushers were Deines 9-20 and James Wyatt 6-19.

Svoboda was leading receiver with two receptions for 53 yards. He was followed closely by Methvin with 3-45 and Harding 1-36.

Harding led the defense with nine solo and five assisted tackles. Dylan Svitak had five solo and six assists.

Other tacklers were Ty Simons 3-7, Deines 4-2, Johnson 0-1, Jerami Slayden 0-1, Svoboda 2-1, Wyatt 3-2, Methvin 4-4, and Terren Thompson 3-5.
