Centre sophomore C.J. Thompson qualified for state competition Sunday by placing 11th in a 1A regional cross-country meet at Mound City. He finished with a time of 20 minutes, 18.69 seconds.
Several top-10 finishers were from the top-three winning teams, which opened up a slot for an additional qualifier.
“C.J. is a self-motivated, hardworking young man who doesn’t quit when he is tired but rather when he is done,” coach Julie Keithline said. “This is true for all areas of his life, not just running.”
He will compete Saturday at the state meet at Wamego.
C.J. began running in varsity competitions as a freshman. His personal record this year was 19:47.
