CENTRE:   Centre teams split wins with Elyria

After a 61-50 victory Monday against Elyria Christian School, the Cougars were undefeated in league play. They are 4-4 overall.

Despite a dismal performance at the free-throw line, Trevor Troutt had his best game ever, scoring 35 points. He was unstoppable at the basket. His three consecutive field goals at the beginning of the game gave Centre a 6-0 start.

Halfway through the second quarter, after three more baskets by Troutt and one by Heath Hill, the Cougars had increased their lead to 10 points.

Three-point shots by Brian Burhoop and Jacob Jirak helped Centre to a 13-point lead after three quarters.

After a last-second basket by Elyria at the end of the fourth quarter, Centre walked away with a satisfying 11-point victory.

Besides Troutt, Burhoop also finished in double digits, scoring 14 points including three 3-point goals.

The Lady Cougars allowed a seven-point lead slip away from them Monday against Elyria Christian. After a 33-33 final score in regulation play, the game went into overtime.

Josie Peterson made a basket to give Centre a two-point lead. Elyria followed up with a 3-point shot, giving them the edge, 36-35.

After a series of fouls and free throws, Elyria led, 39-37, and the Lady Cougars walked away with a two-point loss.

Centre led the entire game until the final 25 seconds, when Elyria scored and the game was tied, 30-30. The girls still had a chance in overtime, but could not pull off a victory.

Carlye Simons was the only Centre player in double digits, scoring 17 points, including one 2-point goal, two 3-point goals, and three free throws.
