Four Centre Elementary School students were winners in the 2009 Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve Arts and Education Contest.
Third graders Antone Vinduska and Katrina Basore placed first and second, respectively, in the first-third- grade category.
Fourth graders Cole Methvin and Daniel Rudolph placed first and second, respectively, in the fourth-fifth-grade category.
They were among 216 students from 14 classrooms throughout Kansas who submitted entries.
Each winner received a Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve T-shirt and a certificate of recognition signed by Mike Hayden, Secretary of Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks.
Vinduska and Methvin also received a $50 U.S. savings bond from Farmers and Drovers Bank. Their classes will receive a free tour of the preserve, and their teachers will receive a free book about the preserve for their classrooms.
The Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is located near Strong City on K-177.
