Charles Cook
Charles Robert Cook, 64, of Wellsville, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016.
Charles was born April 1, 1952, in Gardner, Kansas to Gayle Eugene Cook, D.C. and Rose Marie (Newland) Cook, and graduated from high school in Osage City with the class of 1970.
He went on to graduate from Emporia State University and received his master’s degree in business administration.
In 1973, Charles enlisted with the United States Army and would serve his country as a translator and interpreter. Charles received an honorable discharge in 1976.
Integrity was a core value for Charles. At an early age, he was noted to have an “uncommon amount of common sense.” He was very devoted to his family and friends.
Charles was a local driver for J.B. Hunt and retired after 26 years. During that time, he achieved the milestone of “Three Million Safe Miles.”
He also worked as a car clerk for the railroad for 17 years.
He was a member of American Legion Post #0198, Osage City. He also was a member of Wellsville United Methodist Church.
Charles was united in marriage to Deborah Bales on Feb. 14, 2009, in Osage City, Kansas. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a sister, Lynn Tunison of Austin, Texas; brothers, Dr. Ted Cook and wife Dr. Karolyn of Newton; and Fred Cook and wife Amy of Olathe; adopted sons, Randy Cook and wife Rachel, and Robert Cook, all of Topeka; grandchildren, Jaxson, Zoe, and Aidan Cook, and Sterling Eddie Bales, Derby; sisters-in-law, Barbara Jesseph and husband Gerald of Gas, Mary O’Dell and husband Delvin of Peabody, Anita Cummings and husband Darryl of Hesston, and Leah Mayhew and husband Tanner of St. Joseph, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents.
The family met with family and friends for a visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 at Wellsville United Methodist Church, Wellsville.
A graveside service of remembrance was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 at Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Visiting Nurses of Douglas County or Wellsville United Methodist Church in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 14, Ottawa KS 66067.
