Eighth-grade girls from Centre Junior High School tied for second place at the Tri-County League track meet May 12 at Council Grove.
Bryanna Svoboda finished in first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.68 seconds and the 200 at 29.85. Cacey Simons won high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 9 inches.
Svoboda placed second in the 400 at 1:06.37 and Makenzie Deines finished second in softball with a throw of 140.
Kyle Methvin was the only eighth-grade boy to finish in the top two. He was second in softball at 219-2½.
Seventh-grader Brenna Shields took first in the 400 at 1:08.10 and second in long jump at 13-3. Shelby Makovec placed second in the 1600 at 6:09.23.
Seventh-grader Mark Vinduska claimed two firsts — shot put, 34-11, and discus, 88.
Third-place finishers were Deines, 75-meter hurdles, 15.24, and discus, 62-3½; Shields, 200, 30.34; Chad Mueller, 3200, 13:09.93; Methvin, shot put, 36-5; Dakota Stimpson, 1600, 5:58.82; and Caleb Kristek, discus, 82-9.
A 4x100 relay team of eighth-grade boys — Grant Srajer, Ty Simons, Tanner Peterson and Methvin — also placed third at 55.71. A medley relay team of Srajer, Simons, Mueller, and Peterson finished third at 2:07.06.
