Christmas lights will sparkle at lake

A Tunnel of Lights awaits visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Marion County Lake. Decorated homes and acres of Christmas lights may be viewed along Hill Road.

This is the fifth year for the event. Richard and Margie Schwartz live at 4 Hill Road. They said the Tunnel of Lights attracted 250 vehicles in 2010, averaging three people per vehicle. The homeowners served 750 cups of hot cocoa.

Again this year, Christmas music will fill the air at the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Hill Road, where a bonfire will mark the way. Mr. and Mrs. Claus and their helpers will serve hot cocoa, popcorn, and candy canes along the route.

All around the lake, visitors will see a 40-foot live Christmas tree and smaller trees ablaze with twinkling lights. Rudolph may be seen leading the way over the water as hundreds of lights shine from the shore. The tour is free of charge.
