CHS football team dominates Hartford

In a district game played at home Friday, the Centre High School Cougars defeated Hartford, 46-0, in a shortened game because of the 45-point rule.

Justin Deines and Houston Svoboda scored first-quarter touchdowns on passes from Kyle Methvin. Dakota Stimpson and Svoboda scored conversion points on passes from Deines.

The Cougars scored one touchdown in the second quarter on a 5-yard pass from Methvin to Terren Thompson. At halftime the score was 22-0.

Centre continued to surge ahead in the third quarter, adding 12 more points on touchdowns by Deines in a 9-yard pass play and a 45-yard pass play.

Svoboda had a fourth-quarter touchdown on a 30-yard run. A 12-yard touchdown run by Stimpson ended the game with four minutes, 39 seconds remaining on the clock.

The team had 25 carries for 101 yards compared with 34 carries for 20 yards by Hartford. The leading rushers were Svoboda 5 for 39, Stimpson 6 for 27 and Methvin 9 for 25.

Methvin completed nine of 10 passes for 217 yards in the air. Hartford passed for 74 yards. Deines was the leading receiver with five catches for 137 yards, followed by Svoboda, 2 for 46, and Thompson, 2 for 34.

The team now has a record of 4-3 overall and 2-2 in district play. They play their final district games at Flint Hills of Rosalia on Friday and Madison at home on Oct. 25.
