CHS volleyball adds victories

Centre seeded second in Wheat State League tournament

The Centre High School volleyball team swept its second consecutive triangular Oct. 2 with victories against Peabody-Burns and Elyria at Peabody.

Both games with Elyria were intense with scores of 28-26 and 25-23. Bryanna Svoboda served for 7 points followed by Brenna Shields with 6. Along with Anna Weber, they each aced the ball once.

Weber continued to shine at the net, completing 17 of 20 spike attempts, four for kills. Svoboda was 12 of 15 including three kills. Cacey Simons had six blocks. Beka Basore had 10 spikes, four kills, and three blocks.

Genesis Rudolph was 23 of 25 in setting, and Shelby Makovec was a perfect 22.

Centre defeated Peabody, 25-23 and 25-20. Simons and Weber each served for 5 points. Weber was 24 of 27 at the net, delivering seven kills and one block. Svoboda was 14 of 17 with four kills. Simons and Ellie Miller were leading blockers with four and five blocks, respectively.

After the triangular, the team’s record was 14-10. They are seeded second, behind Goessel, in the Wheat State League tournament Saturday at Peabody-Burns. Centre will play its first game at 10 a.m. against Solomon.
