Churches meet Zimbabwe pastor

Staff writer

Two Marion churches got the chance to visit Sunday with a pastor from Zimbabwean churches they help.

Daniel Chitsiku, superintendent for the 26 United Methodist Churches of the Mutare District in eastern Zimbabwe, is visiting some of the Kansas churches that support his district’s work.

“They have helped a lot in building parsonages and churches,” he said.

Assistance from Marion churches has been more than financial. One Marion resident traveled to Zimbabwe to work on a parsonage.

“Bob Priest did a groundbreaking of a parsonage a few years ago,” Chitsiku said.

Chitsiku gave sermons at both United Methodist churches in Marion as part of his two-week trip to Kansas.

Mutare is one of seven districts that form the Zimbabwe East Annual Conference. Mutare District was one of the first to be established in Zimbabwe. It has 17,157 members.
