City election filing deadline is Jan. 26

Two Marion City Council seats will be up for election April 6, as will the office of mayor. The deadline to file for candidacy is noon, Jan. 26.

Council members Stacey Collett and Gene Winkler currently occupy the council positions. Mary Olson is mayor.

Collett said Thursday that he hadn’t decided whether he would run for re-election.

“I don’t know if I’m a politician,” he said. “Four more years is a long time.”

Winkler indicated he had made a tentative decision against running for re-election.

“I don’t believe I’m going to run,” he said.

Olson said she would like to hear from people whether they want her to run again before she decides.

“I haven’t made up my mind yet,” she said.

Filing for the election is done at the city clerk’s office. One of the following is required: a $5 filing fee, a petition with 25 signatures, or a petition with 10 percent of the ballots cast in the most recent general city election.
