Class of 1955 celebrates 55th anniversary of graduation

Marion High School class of 1955 met Old Settlers’ Day weekend to celebrate its 55th reunion.

Class members met Sept. 24 at Marion Pizza Hut, where they received assignments. They met for coffee and rolls Sept. 25 at the Historic Elgin Hotel and Bed and Breakfast, Marion. They rode in the parade and were introduced by Laurence Griggs during class introductions at Central Park.

A catered dinner was served at the Elgin in the evening with grace said by Pauline Edmunds. Cards were signed for Joe Dvorak, Bob Hiebert, John Williams, and Ken Gardner who were unable to attend.

Janet Bryant was master of ceremonies of the program. An oldies trivia quiz was played. John Waner and Bob Melinger awarded door prizes. Verlin Meier gave a traveling athletic trophy to Leon Lais. Lais led a memorial service for Ray Richmond and Pat DeWitt Druse. LaVern Hoffman led the group in singing the MHS alma mater. He was also the group photographer.

Entertainment was provided by Elvis impersonator, Marc Baker.
