Commission to increase county camping fees

Staff writer

Marion County Commission approved increasing camping fees at Marion County Park and Lake on Monday.

The daily fees increase by one dollar to $8 for tent camping and $14 to camp with electric and water hookups.

Commissioners also approved an annual fee for camping at the lake. Residents can camp year-round for $100. For non-residents the fee is $125. Residents and nonresidents alike are limited to 14 consecutive days camping with a weeklong gap between 14-day stays. The annual camping fee also applies to tent camping. Electric and water hookups cost annual pass holders $6 instead of $14.

In other business:

  • Commissioners denied requests to place a tin roof carport on a residence south of the lake office and for a boat ramp. “I think they detract from the beauty of the lake,” Commissioner Randy Dallke said.
  • Park and Lake Superintendent Steve Hudson said he would hire an electrician to repair electrical hookup poles before the summer camping season. The poles were damaged last June in a windstorm.
  • Hudson will be conducting dock inspections in late April. He will be looking for enclosures or overhangs as well as hazardous docks that have not been well kept. He said there are about 100 docks at the lake.
