Concert series launches new season Sunday

Peabody Main Street Association announces the second annual Sleepy Creek Concert Series will begin Sunday.

Slaymaker’s Ghost, a talented folk-style trio, will perform at 6 p.m. Sunday in Santa Fe Park. A light meal will be served with cost by donation. Guests are reminded to bring lawn chairs.

The Sleepy Creek Concert Series began a year ago as a cooperative effort between Peabody Main Street Association and Partners of Peabody Parks.

“Our goal is to bring musical entertainment to the community as well as raise money for park improvements that include public rest rooms at Santa Fe Park,” Shane Marler, Peabody Main Street Association Executive Director, said. “Each concert features a different genre of music, so hopefully there is something for everyone.

Members of Slaymaker’s Ghost is are Marler on guitar and vocals, Lindsey Marshall on guitar and vocals, and Jerod Lowe on bass. Marshall grew up in Peabody and has been singing in the community for many years. She and Marler have spent about 10 years playing and singing together.

Musical influences for the duo include Gillian Welch, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Hot Club of Cowtown, Old Crow Medicine Show, John Denver, and Django Rhinehardt.

Jerod Lowe, the third member of the group, is a new comer to the Peabody community and a lifelong musician.
