Conservation cost-share programs available

The Marion County Conservation District has announced a new signup period for water resources and non-point source cost-share practices. Both programs are funded through the Division of Conservation and are administered by the Marion County Conservation District.

The water resources program promotes soil and water conservation, and the non-point source program focuses on water quality protection practices.

The signup will be from May 22 through June 8, and funding will be available in July for those practices determined to be natural resource priorities.

The water resources program provides cost-share assistance to landowners for terraces, diversions, grass waterways (new or restoration), and grass seedings.

The non-point source program offers financial assistance for pollution control measures, such as abandoned well plugging, upgrading failing septic systems, and livestock waste management practices.

Both programs offer opportunities for landowners to implement new projects without bearing the entire financial burden. Interested landowners should contact the Marion County Conservation District office at 303 Eisenhower Drive in Marion or call (620) 382-3520.

All applications will be ranked according to pre-set criteria, determining which practices offer the greatest benefit to the county.
